A sensitively told feature film about gay dating culture.
The film follows a young man in Hong Kong who takes on the role of his previous partner with each new hook-up. In this mimetic intimacy with others, he hopes to get a little closer to himself.
First shown at the Berlinale, „Queer Panorama“ tells its story with deliberate ambiguity and a shifting dramaturgy, exploring loneliness, sex dates, and the intimate as well as abrasive sides of togetherness within urban gay “dating culture.” Shot in black and white, it unfolds like a documentary-style social study of gay life— yet in the form of a narrative feature.
